Team Captain, Bob Gregory was diagnosed with MS in 1990. Due to an unusually fast disease progression he was in a wheelchair by 1995. In 1990 MRI was a fairly new technology and other than medications for vague symptom relief there wasn't a lot of options a neurologist could offer. However, rather than sitting around and waiting for something bad to happen, the Gregorys and the Andersons participated in their first walk to raise funds and awareness of this disease. They've been walking ever since.
Due to the proactive chemo treatment (Cladribine) prescribed by Dr. Dusan Stefoski at Rush in 1999, Bob has had limited deterioration for the last 14 years. We're ready for repair.
Our team name: The Johnnie Walkers, found it's genesis in 1995 while Bob Gregory, Ron Anderson and Darby Anderson where brainstorming and imbibing in their favorite drink.
We were supporting the Myelin Repair Foundation where Drs. Miller and Popko were principal investigators. After the MRF distributed its assets in 2015, these world renowned scientists continue to collaborate.
